PLASTICS

Claremont Polymer Shapes offers a wide variety of what are referred to as "Engineering Polymers", in basic shapes such as sheets, plates and slabs; tubes and pipes; rods and profile extrusions. For more details of the profile extrusions, locate the Plastic Wear Strips tab of the Parts section in the menu bar to the left.

Engineering Polymers include those plastics like Delrin®-type Polyacetal, Nylons, Lexan®-type Polycarbonate and many others which have developed to replace metals. In those applications, the Engineering Polymers offer features such as reduced part weight, high strength-to-weight ratio, high wear resistance, non-magnetic properties, inherent vibration dampening, electrical and thermal insulation, corrosion resistance and ease of handling and fabrication; to name but a few. Certain Engineering Polymers, such as Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMW-PE), offer a combination of wear resistance, light weight, corrosion resistance, electrical insulation, impact resistance and low friction which is not available in any other material. Polyurethane elastomer offers a wide range of hardness from as mushy as chewing gum to as hard as Nylon; not available in any other single rubber product. Polyimide, shown as one of the "Specialties" in this section, has bearing properties at least 10 times greater than that of Bearing Bronze.
